We had our first rehearsal today.
First, none of the girls wanted to be Juliet, because they didn't want to be associated romantically with any of the boys. Then, I convinced the smallest girl to be Juliet because she would be easy to be carried in (when she is fake dead, from the potion) - and she was thrilled to be carried around.
Then, it took a while to get a Romeo. I finally nominated one kid. He was okay. I still don't have Tybalt.
So then I had to demonstrate how to be Tybalt - I had Romeo stab me with a ruler (and he knew to stab between body and arm, so it looks like it goes in) - then I waved my arms around, rolled my eyes, stuck out my tongue, and staggered "off stage" - the kids went hysterical, apparently my "death" cracked them all up.
This play is going to be a comedy instead of a tragedy!!!!!!!!
We do have really cool props, however!
